Spatial Constructs

Articulation of space through orthographic projections.

Tools and techniques of architectural representation were developed through an exploration of the generative capacity of projective systems. The final formal spatial constructs were physically manifested through the act of drawing.

Projected modulation

Each individual cube was created through serial projections and stereotomy. For example, the projected cut could be done one of the six primary faces of the cube, or an auxiliary view to create a more complex shape. This established the basis for the development of a formal vocabulary.

Composition within a modular framework

Beginning with eight simple cubical forms created through orthographic projection, the project developed into a ‘gigantic’ cube by orienting and combining the smaller forms, leading to an emerging syntax of externalizing the projected cut planes for complexity and forming seamless connections between areas of color, almost like a river flowing through the central area of the form.

Spatial construction

In the translation from solid to surface, the intrinsic structuring elements that carried over from the initial schema were reconsidered as literal structural and spatial elements, articulating a navigable interiority that contests the objectivenesss of the initial cubic form.
